Yash Raj biggies in 2008:

Tashan did not really meet expectations but there are lots to look forward to from Yash Raj in 2008 especially after those horrible offerings in 2007 (Read Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Aaja Nachle and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom)

Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (June)
Come June and we have Kunal Kohli bringing together Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee and a bunch of kids for “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” apparently inspired by “Mary Poppins”. Rani plays the angel to the four kids who are the victims of Saif’s indifference.
Plus:- Kunal Kohli after tasting box office success with Hum Tum and Fanaa, Saif- Rani- Kunal after Hum Tum
Minus:- Saif, Rani and kids is a formula that did not work with Ta Ra Rum Pum last year, inability to connect to rural audience and Ameesha Patel who has this knack of selecting the worst movies for her to appear
Bachna Ae Hasino (August)
Sidharth Anand’s Bachna Ae Hasino stars Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone with the current heart throb Ranbir Kapoor. Extensively shot in Sydney, Australia, the movie is supposed to be inspired from “The Bachelor”
Plus:- Ranbir and Deepika, current heart throbs; Bipasha Basu after Goal and Race
Minus:- Sidharth Anand made Ta Ra Rum Pum before this one, Ranbir being compared with his legendary father and Minissha Lamba- a non entity as yet
Roadside Romeo (Diwali)
Cartoon caper directed by the yet to grow up Jugal Hansraj is the love story of 2 dogs in the voices of Saif and Kareena. Co produced by Walt Disney, this is something new for Indian cinema
Plus:- Voice over by Saif- Kareena, Walt Disney co production ensures good animation
Minus:- Jugal Hansraj who has not done anything worthwhile since Masoom (1982), wrong release timing (Diwali) and a concept new to Indian audience
Let us hope Yash Raj and Adithya Chopra have learnt their lessons well in 2007 and their next three releases in 2008 give them and us enough reasons to cheer about!
Sit through Tashan if you want to watch the trailors and let us keep our fingers crossed for the release dates…
