Rising food prices, rising inflation, inability to reach a consensus on the nuclear agreement, unpopular next generation and increasing popularity of the opposition party- none of these are reasons to cheer for the lady who runs the country! With the general elections coming up in the next one year or so, it is really time for the UPA to pull up its socks.
But, unfortunately, it does not know where to start. In spite of having the three best economists on board (Singh, PC and Ahluwalia) the government has not been able to wield the magic wand (Courtesy: Mr Sibal) on inflation and rising food prices. Karat is not saleable as far as nuclear alliance is concerned and the next generation’s Harijan hugging photographs have had no impact on his falling popularity. It remains to be seen how UPA is going to face the music in a few months from now and what is going to come out of the election results!
We can keep our fingers crossed while it is definitely sleepless nights at 10, Janpath…
